The market map
Who could do your role, how many there are and where. Counted and dated, with what we could not measure named on the same page.
McMurry & Hughes is a recruiting company. We work for companies hiring for roles their own market cannot fill well, and we look in the markets outside it.
A recruiter paid per role in one city cannot afford to build a presence in another, so they work the market they already have. We are set up the other way round: standing outside our clients' markets is a condition of how we operate, not extra effort we promise.
This is the whole service. There is nothing else behind it.
| 01 | You tell us the role | One role you are struggling to fill, and one question back from us: can you employ someone who is not local? If the answer is no, we say so on the first reply instead of after three weeks of searching. |
| 02 | We research the market | We count the people who could do that job in the markets outside the one you normally recruit from: the ones that can still work your hours. We also write down what we could not measure. |
| 03 | We show you who is out there | You get that research as a market map: how many people, where they are, what we know about them. Free, and yours whether or not we continue. It sometimes concludes that your own market is deep enough and you do not need us. |
| 04 | We find and interview them | We contact those people ourselves, in the language the role needs, and judge them against your standard rather than against who happens to be available. |
| 05 | You meet the strongest | You get summaries written by whoever did the interview, not forwarded CVs, plus the list of who we ruled out and why. You interview and decide. |
All five need to be true. The last one is not negotiable.
| You hire repeatedly | Not one vacancy. A pattern: the same or adjacent roles, over a year or more. |
| You have a real standard | You would rather leave the role open than hire whoever is available. It usually shows in how long it has been open. |
| Your own market is small for it | Location, language, sector or pay band narrows the people who could do it to a handful. |
| You have no recruiting team | Or one recruiter carrying many functions, with hiring run by founders and line managers. |
| You can employ someone who isn't local | This one is not negotiable. You need a company entity, an employer of record or a contractor framework already in place. We do not provide any of those and cannot work around them. |
Within one working day, from a named person, not a form response. One question back: can you employ someone who is not local?
The research for your role: how many people could do it outside your usual market, and where they are. Free, and yours whether or not we continue.
Your standard, the money, the process, who decides. We write down what we heard and send it back the same day.
Summaries written by whoever interviewed them, plus the list of who we ruled out and why.
Who could do your role, how many there are and where. Counted and dated, with what we could not measure named on the same page.
What we will do, what we will not do, and what we still do not know about your market.
Written by whoever did the interview. What we know, what we don't, and who we ruled out.
| Not an employer | We do not employ anyone on your behalf. No entity, no employer of record. You employ the person you hire. |
| Not payroll | We do not run payroll and we do not invoice for anyone's time. |
| Not immigration | We do not provide visas, work permits or sponsorship, and we cannot arrange them. |
| Not a software company | We use research tools, databases and automation to do this work. We do not sell any of it, and none of it decides who you meet. People do. |
| Not cheaper labour | We are not an offshoring service. We search a different market, not a discount one. Sometimes it costs less, sometimes it does not; that is never the argument. |
| Not a job board | Nobody on our talent page is for sale, and nothing here is self-serve. Every introduction goes through a person, with the candidate's agreement. |
